The Spirit of Las Posada’s- Alive at Gonzaga University

Recently, Gonzaga University hosted two events: Posada’s Around The World on Thursday, December 3rd, and Gonzaga University’s 2nd annual celebration of Las Posada’s held Sunday December 6th.

Posada’s Around The World was co-hosted by Javier Navaro, a senior at Gonzaga and Fr. Mark McGregor, a Communication Arts professor and director of Posada’s Project. The hosts were joined by presenters: Michael Imasua, Jhobany Tortolero and Dr. Laura Brunell. The event was sponsored by an emerging Gonzaga club called La Raza Latina, that helped to provide refreshing treats with tamales, Mexican cookies and hot chocolate.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate a posada’s of migrants around the world through education, film, prayer and singing. By becoming educated about their situation and praying for them we can take the first step to helping them.

The presenters reflected on movie clips that depict regions such as Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and their situation.

The 2nd annual celebration of Las Posada’s took place Sunday night beginning at the front entrance of College Hall. It braved the chilly temperatures when the procession went to the side entrance of College Hall, then to the Admission office. Adrian Reyes and members of the Admissions office played the role of in-keepers, turning away Joseph, Mary and the crowd. Then the procession wound its way to the 3rd floor University Chapel, where the mass-goers of the 8:30 Mass welcomed the participants of Las Posada’s.

The Celebration really inspired a call to service. “Touching and inspiring to Las Posada’s with the students, friends and staff of Gonzaga. It helps us to remember to open doors to God and to our neighbor,” said Fr. Mcgregor.
